When Rest, Stretching, and Cortisone Shots Aren't Cutting It Anymore

You've tried resting it. You've done the stretches. Maybe you've had a cortisone shot or two. And yet the plantar fasciitis still greets you every morning, the shoulder still aches when you reach overhead, or the tendon still flares up the moment you try to get back to running.

Chronic tendon and soft tissue pain is frustrating precisely because the standard advice — rest, ice, anti-inflammatories — treats the symptom without addressing the underlying problem: damaged tissue that isn't healing on its own.

The good news is there's now a clinically proven option that works at the cellular level, without surgery, without injections, and without extended downtime. At Reset Chiropractic & Wellness Center in Bloomingdale, we offer SoftWave shockwave therapy as a powerful tool for stubborn musculoskeletal and pelvic floor conditions.

What Is SoftWave Shockwave Therapy?

SoftWave is a form of shockwave therapy that delivers low-intensity acoustic waves deep into damaged tissue. These waves stimulate your body's own healing response, activating stem cells, increasing blood flow, and triggering tissue regeneration at the site of injury.

It's one of the few non-invasive treatments shown to produce lasting structural changes in tendons, fascia, and soft tissue, rather than just temporarily reducing pain. Sessions are short, typically 10 to 15 minutes, and most patients notice improvement within a few treatments.

Shockwave Therapy at Reset Chiropractic, Bloomingdale

Dr. Erin Strauch, DC, has integrated SoftWave shockwave therapy into Reset's model because it fills a critical gap: the patients who have tried everything else and are still stuck. The clinic currently delivers 120 to 150 SoftWave treatments every month, making it one of the most active shockwave providers in the western Chicago suburbs.

Conditions we commonly treat with SoftWave:

  • Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and other foot and ankle injuries
  • Shoulder tendinitis, tennis elbow, and golfer's elbow
  • Hip flexor and IT band pain in runners and triathletes
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction and stress urinary incontinence

A typical course is 3 to 6 sessions. Many patients feel improvement after the first 1 to 2 treatments, with continued tissue healing over the following weeks. [Contact us] to discuss your situation before booking if you have questions.

What SoftWave Can Help You Get Back To

SoftWave is about more than pain reduction, it's about returning to the activities and the life you've been putting on hold:

  • Back to running, lifting, and training without modifying around an injury
  • Relief from the foot pain that makes your first steps in the morning feel like punishment
  • Reduced pelvic floor symptoms that have been quietly limiting your life

Most patients with chronic tendon conditions see meaningful improvement within 3 to 6 sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions About SoftWave Shockwave Therapy

Most patients experience a sensation of deep pressure or mild tingling during treatment, not sharp pain. The SoftWave device is specifically designed to be comfortable. If you experience significant discomfort, the treatment intensity can be adjusted immediately.

SoftWave shockwave therapy is a cash-pay treatment. It is not currently covered by most insurance plans. The benefit is that there's no referral required, no prior authorization, and no delays, so you can start treatment when you're ready. We're happy to discuss pricing during your consultation.

Most conditions respond well in 3 to 6 sessions, typically spaced one week apart. Some patients see significant relief after just 1 or 2 treatments. Dr. Strauch will give you a clearer estimate after assessing your specific situation.

SoftWave works especially well for chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions that haven't responded to conservative care — plantar fasciitis, Achilles and rotator cuff tendinopathy, elbow tendinitis, and pelvic floor dysfunction. It is not appropriate for active infections, certain cancers, or pregnancy (in the treatment area).

Yes. Dr. Strauch uses SoftWave as part of women's health treatment at Reset, particularly for stress urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. It's a non-invasive option for patients who haven't gotten the results they were hoping for from pelvic floor exercises alone.
